Community Connector Volunteer
DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a volunteer Community Connector to reduce social isolation for an elderly local resident. Having reached 93 years of age, and coping with multiple health issues, this community member is feeling very isolated and bored and is often lonely. Professional Care Workers attend her home each day and family members are in frequent contact, however regular visits from a friendly volunteer would make a big difference.
This community member suffers from Aphasia – meaning she struggles to speak. However she comprehends what others are saying and, given time to relax, is able to communicate.
Duties
Visit participant in their home (Henry Street, Kensington) once a week for 2 hours.
Make lunch with supplies provided and sit and eat together.
Potentially go out to a café every so often.
Meet with the program coordinator from time to time to debrief.
Maintain confidentiality and privacy relating to participant information
Comply with policies and procedures of KNH and all relevant government legislation and/or regulations (See KNH Volunteer Manual).
OPPORTUNITY REQUIREMENTS
Patience, enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to communicate with someone who may not be able to respond clearly or easily.
An understanding of, and empathy for, elder community members.
Willingness to commit to the position for a minimum of six months.

Two successful referee checks
